Whats Up at FEMA?

Oklahoma suffered some of the worst natural disaster last month with the unprecedented ice storm. I was in Tulsa at Christmas and it looked like a war zone, literally. Gov. Henry went to bat for his citizens only to have FEMA deny any aid to help those who need the help. Our government sends off billions in aid to other countries, yet, cannot caugh up the funds to help their own people. What's up at FEMA?

All I can tell you is that FEMA is a four letter word. I visited their site when our company was trying to resolve an issue (took 2 years) about Hurrican Katrina. I witnessed government red tape at its finest. Our company finally just decided to take the loss and move on. We won't be dealing with FEMA anymore.

FEMA is an over-rated organization that takes care of those they believe to be in need. Oklahoma is far from their minds unless of course, there has been a bombing or another terrorist attack. Now if we could prove that the terrorists were behind the last ice storm, Oklahomans in need of assistance would get their fair chunk of change.

July and September of 2006, Hatch, NM, a small town in the Mesilla Valley was hit three different times with flood waters from the Rio Grande. Water levels reached in excess of 5 feet at times. Businesses and homes were washed out. Our Governor declared it a disaster site. A year and a half later, Hatch is still waiting on promised funds from FEMA.

What types of changes to you think we may see FEMA undergo depending on which of the Presidential candidates gets elected to office? I haven't seen as many of the debates as I would like. Have any of the candidates addressed this issue?

When I first heard about this I was so mad. I mean there was a lot of damage but we as a state can't expect too much from FEMA considering Hurrican Katrina was even worse than our ice, and they are still having FEMA problems. Maybe one day anyone in a bad weather event will get the help they need and deserve. We just have to keep waiting!

Does anyone know why we were denied assistance from FEMA?
